Gum Disease Treatment

What is gum disease?

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is when bacteria in the form of plaque and tartar irritates the gums and causes them to become inflamed. This can lead to swollen, bleeding and receding gums. In its early stages, gingivitis can be treated and reversed. If left untreated, gum disease can affect gum tissue, the teeth, and bone tissue. This can lead to severe damage in the mouth that may affect your health.

At Fairview Dental Arts, we provide gentle treatments for gum disease to help protect your mouth and maintain your gum health.

When is gum treatment recommended?

With regular dental cleanings and appointments, we will examine the gums and look for signs of gum disease. If we notice red, swollen, bleeding or receding gums, we may then recommend gum disease treatment. This may vary based on the severity of gum disease upon examination. Our caring dentists and staff may suggest in-home treatments such as oral antibiotics, rinses, and other types of dental care. To treat your gum disease in the office we may suggest extra cleanings or surgery (in severe cases).

We are committed to helping you maintain a healthy smile!
